One Heart Press Presents
Katie’s Invisible Journey
Three Stories of Friendship, Belonging, and the Invisible Threads That Connect Us

An unexpected invisible journey leads Katie, a brave and curious young child, to discover something she cannot see, but can feel deep within her heart.
As she explores forests and rivers, friendships and fears, she begins to uncover truths older than time. Along the way, she senses an unseen thread connecting her to others, to the world around her, and to who she truly is.
In three heartfelt stories, Katie finds herself standing beside her friend in the face of bullying, believing in herself when doubt begins to surface, and knowing that she belongs.
In a time when many children feel pressure to fit in, compete or choose sides, Katie's Invisible Journey reminds us that we already belong.

A note from the author
Sometimes it's challenging to find the right moment to talk with children about things that cannot be seen but can be deeply felt—belonging, self-worth, fear, and our connection to one another and the natural world. In Katie's Invisible Journey, a young girl and her companion dog Spirit, may help open that door.
My hope is that children will be captivated by the wonder-filled illustrations, courageous adventures, and relatable experiences, and that they will spark meaningful conversations that nurture social, emotional, and spiritual growth.

How these stories began
Katie and the One Heart stories began while I was reading children's stories to my niece, Katie, who is blind and developmentally delayed. One day, instead of reading children's books to her, I began sharing meaningful moments from my own life. As Katie listened, she began repeating simple but powerful messages from those moments: "I belong. Trust yourself. We are one."
Those words became the heart of this series.
Through the adventures of a fictional seven-year-old Katie, these stories invite children to look beyond what can be seen and experience the invisible threads that connect us all.
May these stories inspire conversations about compassion, courageous friendship, and sacred connections. May they also encourage children to see beyond appearances and recognize the deeper truth of who we are and how we belong to one another.

Most of my life, I have listened for guidance from within. I've always been drawn to moments of quiet connection — with God, with nature, and with the people in my life.
It was a childhood dream of mine to illustrate a children's book. I started drawing when I was five years old and never really stopped. I grew up to become a graphic designer because I loved using art to express concepts and ideas. When Diane asked for my help to bring the mystic adventures of Katie to life through my art, I was excited.
My niece Katie is multiply handicapped, blind, and developmentally delayed. She lives in a supported living home where she receives round-the-clock care that she requires. Katie loves stories, and because she can't read, I read stories to her regularly. One day, I decided to share some of my own experiences with Katie, especially some of my mystical moments of connection to the natural world and with friends and family. After hearing these stories many times, Katie began to know each story as well as words and phrases like, "Connection," "Love," "I'm important," and "I can fly and do anything." These stories are the One Heart series.
